When a film company begins production of a low-budget modern-day horror
movie based on the beheading of Saint John the Baptist, Alex is asked to
lend a hand as a stunt double. In no time, she's immersed in the
intrigues of the cast and crew, culminating in a terrible calamity that
sends her, once again, on the trail of a killer. <i>On A Silver Platter</i> is
the third of the Alexis Pope mystery series.<br />

Set in the rich Amish science-fiction world of Michael Bunker’s PENNSYLVANIA, “The Yesterday Adjustment” is James Bond meets Harrison Ford in the The Witness.<br />
<br />
Washington crossing the Delaware, Truman dropping the atomic bomb, TRACE rebels capturing the first Transport portal at Columbia. All inflection events that fundamentally altered the trajectory of mankind’s future.<br />
<br />
After more than a half-century at war, Transport is desperate for a way to defeat the rebels once and for all. Enter Damien Strickland, Time Operative agent. His mission: posing as an Amish man, go back in time and make sure the rebel attack on the Columbia portal fails.<br />
<br />
The mission takes an unexpected turn when he meets Amos Troyer, the man who will grow up to become the feared leader of the rebel forces.<br />
<br />
But Amos in this timeline is only a harmless sixteen year old Amish boy.<br />

<b>by Linda Morganstein</b><br />
<br />
In Dante's circle of hell for suicides, those who take their own lives are transformed into dead trees that can still feel pain. Sitting on their withered branches are the harpies, birds with women's faces, who peck at their limbs. In Harpies' Feast, the second in the Alexis Pope mystery series, Alex is once again confronted with a crime that doesn't seem to be what it really is. She is plunged into a mystery exploring suicide and its repercussions.<br />
<br />
After solving a crime at the Overlook Lodge in <i>Ordinary Furies,</i> Alex no longer feels welcome in the resort town of Guerneville, California. She flees down the road to the village of Sebastopol, home to a melting pot of old hippies, wine estate owners, apple farmers and retired baby boomers. She gets a job teaching "cardio self-defense" at a trendy fitness center, courtesy of her new landlady, Sandy Knight, bisexual personal trainer and part-time philosophy professor.<br />
<br />
Through the class, Alex meets two intriguing newcomers to town, a teenage actress and a striking lesbian playwright who've both arrived to work on a local theatre production. Much to her dismay, Alex feels attracted to Nickie, the playwright, and maternally protective of Jaycee, the teenager, who is becoming the victim of a group of jealous local girls.<br />
<br />
The bullying and nastiness lead to disaster. In their search for answers to the perplexing events, Alex and her friends, both old and new, explore the glory and sting of relationships and confront the bounds of sexual orientations and attractions.<br />

<br />
<b>by David Bruns</b><br />
<br />
When you dreamed last night did it seem real? It was.<br />
<br />
Consider this: when you close your eyes at night, you enter a dimension where dreams are reality. And we are not alone. We share this space with a sister civilization--two worlds separated by space, bonded by dreams and guarded by the Dream Guild.<br />
<br />
When a boy named Eli is Transported across the dream dimension, the balance between the two worlds is altered. Alone and scared, Eli becomes the protégé of a dark Sovereign—and beyond the reach of the Dream Guild. Under this malevolent tutelage, Eli develops an arsenal of superpowers that threatens to swallow his better nature.<br />
<br />
Desperate for a way to stop the Sovereign, the Dream Guild recruits Mika, Eli’s best friend. Mika becomes an unwilling warrior in a battle that pits friend against friend and threatens to destroy both worlds.<br />

Tom Jackson follows the call of a loon to find a small boy alone on an
island in the middle of a northern Minnesota lake. They need to figure
out who the kid is, why he was left on the island, but the real issue
seems to be that a loon led him to the boy. Tom's father-in-law, a
full-blood Native American mystic, hints that the loon might be the
spirit of his dead wife.<br />

<br />
Alexis Pope's life has come undone. Just when she thought she'd found a life of guaranteed security and comfort, her husband's death in a sky-diving accident has cast her into self-imposed solitary confinement in her Northern California suburban mansion.<br />
<br />
Unsure as to whether she'll ever stop grieving, or whether she'll ever want to, it's no wonder she's reluctant to accept her gay cousin Jeffrey's offer to come up and work at the Russian River resort where Jeffrey runs the dining room.<br />
<br />
Then, a revelation in the form of a nosy fundamentalist neighbor signals enough. Enough hiding, enough lethargy. Little suspecting she's almost literally jumping from the frying pan into the fire, Alex plunges into the refreshingly frantic world of restaurant resort cooking and dining in the funky chic town of Guerneville, California.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, when it finally seems she's climbing out of her malaise, a series of increasingly vicious events at the resort forces her to revive her abandoned skills as a self-defense instructor and--to her great dismay--face up to her own involvement in her husband's death.<br />

<span style="color: blue;">Behind the Scenes with Your Favorite Animal Actors</span><br />
<br />
<b>by Robin Ganzert, Ph. D. and Allen & Laura Anderson</b><br />
<br />
When cameras roll and directors call, “Action,” some of the most
dependable, funniest, and most enthusiastic actors stand poised on four
legs, with ears alert. From Joey in <i>War Horse</i> to the wolves in <i>Game of Thrones</i>,
what we see on screen is the result of meticulous preparation and
professional teamwork. These eye-popping, heartwarming stories reveal
the trainers, actors, directors, and animals in behind-the-scenes glory.
You’ll discover that some animal actors have diva tendencies and others
have rags-to-riches backstories. American Humane Association certified
animal safety representatives work carefully to ensure that no animals
are harmed, as they have been doing for decades.<br />
<br />
Animal stars
have done it all — convinced us to eat more tacos, broken our hearts in
war dramas, inspired us with enduring love and loyalty, mirrored human
antics to make us roar with laughter, and stolen the show on the red
carpet. And animal stars will work for food, including only KFC original
recipe for Casey the bear — no other fried chicken will do!<br />
<br />
Training
tips from the pros and recollections from Julia Roberts, Hailee
Steinfeld, and Steven Spielberg make this insider’s look at the work of
these incomparable stars as irresistible as the animals themselves.<br />

<b>Allen Anderson, </b>New York Times bestselling author of <i>A Dog Named Leaf</i>
with his wife Linda are coauthors of a series of popular books,
published in multiple languages, about the benefits of human-animal
companionship. In 1996 they cofounded the Angel Animals Network to honor
and expand upon their lifelong love of animals. Angel Animals uses the
power of inspirational stories to increase love and respect for all
life.<br />
<br />
The Andersons' books have won recognition from
the American Society of Journalists & Authors's Outstanding Book
Award program. Allen and Linda were named Partners and Friends of the
American Humane Association in recognition that their mission and
efforts are in alignment with the organization's work.<br />
<br />
The
Andersons raised two children along with pets as family members. They
currently share their home in Minneapolis with pets whose relationships-
would make great film plots -- a dog named Leaf, Cuddles the cat, and
Sunshine, a cockatiel who says, "I love you, sweet baby."<br />

<i>"He was alone in the wilderness, a wilderness that seemed deep and forever, but was surrounded by a world filled with people."</i><br />
<br />
Eli
Sylvan is on a quest to rediscover the wilderness of his youth. He
spends his weekends camping and fishing in the wild mountains of
Wyoming, and then on Mondays he returns to the daily grind of the
professional workforce. Feeling alienated from his friends and
coworkers, Eli spends his evenings painting scenic landscapes, but this
only intensifies his longing to be completely immersed in nature. Then
he meets Lamara, a young woman who has a sophisticated flair and a deep
affinity for the outdoors. Together they develop a plan to resign from
their careers in Wyoming and move into an isolated northern Minnesota
forest. But the challenge of escaping the comforts of society is greater
than either anticipated, and they must prepare themselves for the
possibility of failure.<br />

Finally, the guard called me out. The crowd was large and boisterous,
and their attention was directed solely toward me. Men and women and
even some children had gathered in scores outside the courthouse...The
crowd grew loud and angry. "He is a traitor!" they shouted derisively
while their faces were filled with hate. "He murdered whites! He should
be tortured and hanged!" I heard them continually call out. More objects
came flying toward me, and I huddled low from between the guards for
protection as if they were a walled fortress from which within I could
hide. Finally, I made it inside the courtroom and the door was closed
behind me.<br />

On December 26, 1862, thirty-eight Sioux Indians were hanged
in Mankato, Minnesota, in what remains the largest mass execution in
United States history. The Indians were hanged as a result of what is
known today as the U.S. - Dakota Conflict of 1862. Through the use of
extensive primary source documents, <i>Thy Eternal Summer</i> recreates this
conflict in an accurate and interesting manner. The novel centers on
Alfred Riggs, a young missionary who becomes intertwined with the
people, places, and events of the calamitous struggle. Throughout the
conflict Alfred is continually forced to consider the perspectives of
all those involved and to do what he believes is right, even at his own
peril. The events and people are real and the story is largely
historically accurate. <i>Thy Eternal Summer</i> is a compelling story of
adventure, hardship, and conflict.<br />

Thirteen-year-old Tim Hansen lives in a quaint little neighborhood in
South Minneapolis. For the most part, he leads a normal, preteen
existence. He is concerned about friendships, girls, sports, and even
schoolwork from time to time. But when his mother, who is a nurse in the
United States Army Reserve, is deployed to Iraq, Tim’s relatively
normal and happy existence gets flipped upside down. How will Tim cope
without his mother? Will his family ever be the same? Middle school was
unpredictable enough, but when Tim faces this sudden dose of mortality,
the adventure is just beginning.<br />

Maxie Wolfe is on track to becoming the most notorious female paparazzo of all time, a dubious goal that reflects her flight from the past. One scorching summer night, outside the Bad Mama Supper Club on Sunset Boulevard, Maxie scuffles with Fisher Jacobs, a celebrity female sports agent. They're both arrested and sentenced to anger-management classes. Things go from bad to worse for the pair in Hollywood, until they flee to Fisher's family in Minnesota.<br />
<br />
In the heartland, Maxie begins to bond with the Jacobs family and to use her suppressed talent to take photos that aren't ugly celebrity exposes. While in Minnesota, she begins to uncover secrets about the Jacobs family. Secrets that could destroy them.<br />
<br />
<i>Girls in Ice Houses</i> is a thoughtful yet humorous exploration of complex family dynamics, the nature of art and creativity, and the relationship of comedy and tragedy in a tentative world.<br />

<span style="color: blue;">Six Years in a Zambian Village</span><br />
<br />
<b>by Jill Kandel</b><br />
<br />
In 1981, Jill Kandel
traveled to the
remote Zambian village of Kalabo. She was a bride of six weeks,
married to a
blue-eyed boy from the Netherlands. Amidst international crises
and famine, she
gave birth to two children, bridged a cultural divide with her
Dutch husband,
and was devastated by a car accident that took the life of a
twelve-year-old
Zambian child. She stayed six years. After returning home,
Kandel struggled to
find her voice and herself. This is the story of how she found
her way
home.<br />

Beautiful Lalooh becomes the ''favor and fancy'' of sixteen-year-old Andrew Eaton as she teaches him Yakama words for the parts of a bear caught by the most powerful Yakama leader in the Pacific Northwest, Chief Kamiakan. One year later Andrew translates at the Walla Walla Treaty Council, helping to establish reservations bitterly resented by tribes from the Nez Perce of the Rocky Mountains to bands on the Columbia. The Yakama War breaks out, 1855-1856, and Andrew helps hunt for Kamiakan and an elusive Indian confederation. He translates across council fires from Lalooh and carries dispatches between one commander pursuing extermination and another seeking truce. A territorial governor, an army major, Jesuit priest, Hudson's Bay trader and Lalooh battle for Andrew's soul and conscience. Yet an officer's order brings him to the darkest of violations, and his love for Lalooh leads him to a little-known event as revealing to American history as Sand Creek, Washita Creek and Wounded Knee.<br />

<span style="color: blue;">The Hero from Heaven Who Saved My Life</span><br />
<br />
<b>by Allen Anderson with Laura Anderson</b><br />
<br />
Allen and Linda Anderson adopted a traumatized one-year-old
cocker spaniel who had been abandoned. Soon, the troubled dog they named
“Leaf” turned their home into a war zone. Although Leaf and Allen were
forging a friendship with visits to dog parks and bonding time, Leaf’s
emotional issues overwhelmed the couple. Shortly after Leaf’s arrival,
Allen, who had spent eight years as a big city police officer and
survived so many close calls that Linda called him “Miracle Man,”
received a diagnosis from his doctor that made him think his luck had
finally run out. Allen had an unruptured brain aneurysm that could be
fatal, and the surgery to repair it might leave him debilitated. Having
seen his father live for years with the effects of a massive stroke, he
dreaded that the worst fate might not be death. What Allen didn’t know
is that he and Leaf, like comrades facing the ultimate battle, would be
there for each other with the miracle of this man and this dog coming
together at exactly the right time.<br />

It’s been months since the six refugees fled the dystopian Community
of Sindra, and already the Joined adults are showing signs of sickness.
In their search for a new home, time is not their ally.<br />
<br />
A routine
planetary survey goes horribly wrong, leaving a native boy near death.
In a desperate attempt to save his life, the boy is given a transfusion
of Sariah’s blood—and the crew makes an amazing discovery.<br />
<br />
Sariah
is adopted into the boy’s clan as the Fountain of Dreams, the mysterious
girl from the stars who brought them the gift of dreams. But
superstitions run deep in the clan and not everyone is happy with the
new freedoms, especially Nisador, the tribe’s Sacred Mother.<br />
<br />
Sariah learns the ways of the clan are harsh—even deadly.<br />

<br />
<i>"Today I am an unemployed writer living as a recluse in the great Northwoods."</i><br />
<br />
So
begins this North Country journal from the author of <i>This Side of a Wilderness</i>. In the spring of 2011, Rice resigned from his career with
the U.S. Geological Survey, and moved alone into a tent deep in the
forests of northern Minnesota. <i>The Unpeopled Season</i> is his daily record
of the four months in isolation. But it is more than a catalog of
events. It is a compassionate and introspective quest into mankind's
connection to wild places. He writes with humor about his follies and
foibles, shares technical know-how about setting up camp, ruminates on
fishing, introduces wild animals, and discusses the often invigorating,
occasionally disconcerting, task of completing his first novel.<br />

<br />
Along the wintry landscape of a pristine and hopeful frontier, tragedy struck and strife followed. <br />
<br />
Joseph
Campbell is a thirty-one year old, mixed-breed interpreter who finds
himself helplessly intertwined in the real life actions, events, and
people of a harrowing, but largely unknown struggle in the history of
Minnesota. Joseph grew up along the expanding western frontier and he
developed an intimacy for the people and places along with a deep seated
knowledge of the varying cultures and languages. Following a massacre
incited by Inkpaduta and the Wahpekute Indians in March of 1857, Joseph
becomes torn between his duties as a U.S. Interpreter and his deep
understanding, compassion, and kinship ties for his Dakota brethren.
Joseph struggles desperately to uphold the rights of the Indians while
at the same time seeking to capture and punish the guilty party. All the
while, Joseph discovers a brooding conflict within himself that he
longs to understand and finally overcome.<br />

This sequel to <i>Eye of the Wolf</i> finds Melora St. James working to restore an endangered shorebird to the coast of Lake Superior. Melora’s peace and her focus on the piping plover are interrupted when Drew Tamsen, the boyfriend she thought she lost to another woman and another way of life eleven years ago, shows up on her office doorstep. He wants her back. They have a few things to work out first: Drew chose life as a werewolf over being with Melora, and after a painful divorce, Melora is in no hurry to trust or give her heart to another man -- even if he’s one she never quite got over.<br />
<br />
Their story is interwoven with that of the plovers, who are threatened by foxes, loggers and the Federal Aviation Administration. Then there’s Demetri, a mysterious boy Melora and Drew find lost on the beach. In helping Demetri discover who he is and make his first real friends, Melora and Drew learn secrets about themselves, building community, and coming to terms with the past.<br />

untimely death. Left a widow with two children, Grace forges a new life
for her family, abandoning her private practice and moving to Minnesota
to take on a prestigious position at the Rochester Forensic Center for

a sense of possibilities. Among the possibilities is a budding romance
with Alex Sawyer, a divorced doctor engaged in humanitarian work. Grace
accompanies Alex on a medical mission to Indonesia and they return
committed to a new life together. But their joy is short lived.<br />
<br />
Grace returns home not to her children, but to an empty house and a

waking hour. Grace's story illuminates the hopes and fears of every
wife or husband, mother or father, woman or man, caught in life's
turmoil and striving to overcome it.<br />

<span style="color: blue;"><span style="font-size: x-large;"><b>The Good Guy List </b></span></span><br />
<br />
<b>by Russ Vanderboom</b><br />
<br />
<i>The Good Guy List</i> is a simple loving gift bestowed upon twin
brothers to help them embrace a world bent upon keeping them from those
they love most. <i>The Good Guy List</i> is key to the brothers'
survival in the quest for justice, peace and redemption as they come of
age during the challenging '60s. David and Patrick Joyce want nothing
more than to live together as family. With their mother deep in
depression after the untimely death of their father, not even the kind
and loving intercession by their village of aunts, uncles, neighbors,
and friends from their church can keep both twins at home on the farm.<br />
<br />
While David remains in North Freedom dairying and building a hugely
successful business in Holstein genetics, Patrick becomes an exile from
his Wisconsin home, living first with relatives along the shores of Lake
Michigan in Indiana, and then following opportunities to play football
for the University of Colorado Buffaloes and later studying in Europe.<br />
<br />
The brothers cross paths as they come of age and travel the world, each
finding love, and both learning the bitter emptiness of loss. Justice
and salvation eludes them, however, until they embrace a redeeming gift
shared among their greater family, a simple prayer called <i>The Good Guy List</i>.<br />

<b>Russ Vanderboom</b> is native to Wisconsin. He was a Marine in

agricultural journalism in Wisconsin before returning to the University
of Wisconsin, Madison, to earn a master’s degree in dairy science and a

Molecular aspects of endocrinology swept him away; his passion for

Survival books tend to focus on the exotic, like a plane going down in
the mountains. This one is for the rest of us. Andy Steiner explores
resiliency in the face of such difficult life events as the death of a
spouse, the loss of a child, the distress of bankruptcy, the trauma of a
heart attack, and more.<br />
